Shayla S. Ramos, Esq.
Since the onset of her legal career, Shayla has practiced family law, representing a diverse range of clients including corporate executives, founders, stay-at-home parents, lawyers, and business owners all over Long Island/NYC. She has experience in high-asset dissolutions such as those involving cryptocurrency, division of property, determination of spousal and child support, and resolution of parenting and custody matters. Shayla also specializes in alternative dispute resolution through mediation and settlement negotiation.
Shayla acknowledges and recognizes the deeply personal nature of family law cases and is resolutely devoted to minimizing the emotional toll for all parties throughout a case, especially for any children involved. Throughout the span of a case, Shayla is dedicated to listening, connecting, and working together with her client to achieve that client’s individual goals. She works closely with her clients and retained experts to tailor a strategy that best meets her client’s objectives. Shayla understands the importance of empathy, compassion and discretion when dealing with highly personal family law matters.
Shayla is also experienced with cases involving domestic violence and abuse. Recognizing the silent prevalence of domestic violence and abuse in all regions, Shayla is committed to treating all her clients with dignity, thoughtfulness, and respect. Shayla is likewise experienced with representing individuals facing wrongful accusations of domestic violence and is dedicated to adamantly advocating on her client’s behalf to protect their interests.
Shayla is a zealous advocate for her clients in and out of the courtroom. In addition to her dissolution work, Shayla is skilled at negotiating complex premarital agreements, sperm donor agreements and surrogacy contracts.
During law school, Shayla served as a certified family law mediator for the Family and Children Mediation Clinic in Nassau County Family and Supreme Courts. Shayla draws on her experience as a mediator to help her clients resolve sensitive and difficult issues.
Shayla is also admitted to practice in New Jersey and successfully handles matters with jurisdiction in New York and New Jersey.
Shayla is trilingual and speaks Spanish and Portugese.
Shayla volunteers at various organizations, including the Melville Chamber of Commerce, co-chairing the Chamber’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and at the LGBT NY Bar LeGal Clinic, where she provides free legal advice to low-income individuals. In her free time, she enjoys trying out new cooking recipes and providing dog walks and care for the animals at RuffHouse Rescue.
