Even the Most Controversial Divorce Can Settle Out of Court

General

This past weekend, former Today show anchor Matt Lauer and estranged wife Annette Roque have been spotted together for the first time since he reportedly agreed to a multi-million dollar divorce settlement. There appeared to be no bad blood between the two, who were photographed together at the Hampton Classic horse show on Sunday.

Lauer and Roque have remained out of the public eye since last November, when Lauer was hit with a deluge of sexual misconduct allegations. The two are believed to be sharing custody of their three minor children, Jack, 17, Romy, 14, and Thijs, 11. A source shared, “the divorce is imminent. Matt is really just laying low at the moment . . . His focus has been on the kids, and he knows there’s nothing he can do apart from wait.”

Lauer’s case started out with a lot of salacious gossip, fueled in part by #MeToo, but it seems that the parties have worked out an amicable settlement. This is something we emphasize at Wisselman, Harounian & Associates. The end of a marriage is a challenge for all involved, especially when children are in the mix. Agreeing to settle can save both parties time, money, and emotional stress. Children have an easier time adjusting to their “new normal” when they know their parents are on good terms. Remaining amicable keeps couples out of court and keeps legal costs down. Come in for a free case analysis and to learn various options to resolve your divorce without court involvement.
