Law Partner Jacqueline Harounian Serves on the UJA “Hope Against Domestic Violence” Committee

Divorce

UJA Federation of New York is hosting its 2018 “Hope Against Domestic Violence” fundraising charity event to help bring awareness and needed financial support to the victims of domestic violence in Long Island’s Jewish community. The Hope Center recently opened at the Gural JCC in Cedarhurst, and is a community resource to assist victims in the Jewish community as part of The Safe Center of Long Island (TSCLI.org), the largest victims’ services agency on Long Island. The October 25 event at The Space in Westbury this year is honoring Bari and Troy David with the “Humanitarian Award”, and Chris Tsarsi and Matty Sorrentino with the “Business Leadership Award”. The individuals chosen to be award winners are considered outstanding pillars in the community who have helped raise awareness regarding the plight of men, women and children who are victims of family violence.

The mission of “Hope Against Domestic Violence” and UJA is one that resonates significantly with Jacqueline Harounian of Wisselman, Harounian & Associates. She is both a practicing attorney, mediator, and a Partner at our Long Island family law firm. Last year, she obtained an advanced degree in psychology to gain a deeper understanding of victimology and the power dynamic that exists in human relationships. Jacqueline Harounian has volunteered extensively at The Safe Center over the past years, as a pro bono attorney in court for victims, and as a trained rape crisis counselor and mandated reporter of abuse. The UJA “Hope Against Domestic Violence” committee has enabled Jacqueline Harounian to extend her volunteer efforts to the local Long Island community, to raise funds and awareness for a Safe Center satellite location in the Five Towns. The “Hope Center” at the Gural JCC also has a kosher food pantry, and other resources for Jewish victims, but is open to the community at large and helps individuals of all backgrounds and religions. Using her extensive experience and insight as a volunteer and crisis counselor, Jacqueline Harounian helps the clients of her law firm through complex divorce issues, such as cases involving orders of protection, financial control, complex custody issues, and reports of domestic violence. It is for this reason and more that she finds such value in being part of this annual UJA event.

In addition to volunteering her time, attorney Jacqueline Harounian and her husband Maurice have elected to once again financially sponsor the upcoming UJA “Hope Against Domestic Violence” event on October 25th, 2018 at The Space at Westbury. Along with the other volunteers on the Hope Committee, headed by Andi Black and Suzanne Gavin, domestic violence survivors can more easily find the support they need to move on with their lives, regain self-confidence, and truly thrive.
