How has the downturn in the economy affected child support? Due to recent economic circumstances (including increased cost of living, job losses, and decreased household income), we have seen a large increase in clients seeking to modify their child support obligations. Usually, when a parent can demonstrate a significant reduction in income, there is a basis to obtain a judicial redetermination of support. Proof of unemployment earnings, a recent pay stub, or other credible proof of the reduction in earnings would be necessary.
