Wisselman, Harounian & Associates Four Legal Workshops on Mental Health

Firm News

Wisselman, Harounian & Associates will conduct a series of four legal mini-workshops, which will be held in our Carle Place office each month, engaging attendees on a different topic each session. The overarching focus of the series will address prime legal concerns related to divorce family law.

These workshops are intended for mental health professionals, which will help you effectively assist patients experiencing marital and family problems, and prepare you for cases in which you may be required to provide court testimony. Some of what will be addressed includes:

  • Divorce & Separation
  • Child Custody & Visitation
  • Parental Alienation
  • Helping Patients through Court Proceedings
  • Disclosure of Subpoenaed Records
  • Testifying in Court
  • Forensic Testing
  • Therapeutic vs. Legal Concerns
  • Attorney for the Child

During our first workshop, we will address Solving Custody and Parenting Time Problems, discussing what goes into such agreements, emotional impact on both the parents and children, and fostering a relationship with both parents. This session takes place on February 10, 2017, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.

Our second workshop, held on March 22, 2017, will address the Anatomy of Divorce, delving into the process, from pre-separation to post-divorce. This session will discuss how a therapist and attorney may help in reducing adversity and how to help clients through the Court process. It begins at 12:30 pm and ends at 2:00 pm.

On April 21, 2017, our workshop will address The Attorney for the Child and the Child’s Best Interests. This will include the issue of how to represent the child’s best wishes rather than advocating for those interests. This can be pivotal to the outcome of a case. This third session begins at 9:00 am and ends at 10:30 am.

Our final workshop addresses A Therapist’s Court Testimony: How to be Prepared. Throughout this workshop, we will share guidelines on how to present yourself in this situation and the importance of pre-trial preparation and continuity between written and oral testimony. This workshop takes place on May 17, 2017, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm.

The fee to attend each workshop is $20 each and each attendance will qualify for 1.5 CE credits.
